Send Flowers Send Flowers

Jean Harr passed away on April 14, 2018 at the age of 92 in Winter Haven, FL. She was born in Kansas City. Missouri on September 17, 1925, grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and moved to San Diego, California to work as a telegraph operator during WWII. It was there that she married and gave birth to her only child, Steve.
In 1958 the family moved to the Space Coast of Florida just as the nation’s space program was about to begin. She went to work for General Dynamics and Cape Canaveral supporting the development of the Atlas rocket and the Mercury space capsule launches.
In 1971 as the Space program’s Apollo moon landing program was nearing its end she decided to change careers and went back to school to become a registered nurse. For most of the next 30 years she worked as a nurse in newborn nursery, pediatrics and neonatal ICU in Orlando area hospitals and clinics.
She has always had a love for infants and for many years after retiring she would knit small caps for infants in the neonatal ICU to keep heads warm.
She is survived by her son, Steve, two grandchildren, Matthew Harr and Shannon Furey, and five great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the care givers of Good Shepherd Hospice for the dedicated attention during her finals weeks. Arrangements for final care have been entrusted to Cox Parker Funeral Home in Winter Park, Florida.
