Our radiant Kristin Sanborn Todd of Davis, California passed away from metastatic breast cancer on April 14, 2018. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends in her childhood home in Orlando, Florida. Her journey began 36 years ago and was filled with great happiness, perseverance, selflessness, and love for family, friends, and patients.
Her success in life was born from an early dedication to gymnastics in Orlando and continued in Lawrenceville, Georgia. She began training in Orlando at Bethea-Ebsen and later at Brown’s Metro. Kristin moved to Georgia and trained at Gwinnett Gymnastics Center, eventually attaining Elite level and becoming a member of the Southeastern Regional Jr. Olympic team, and subsequently competing at the National Jr. Olympic competition. Gymnastics laid the foundation for her lifelong pursuit of fitness, her willpower and determination to overcome substantial obstacles, and her endless drive to give her best.
She became a lifelong Bulldawg after attending the University of Georgia, where she met her husband Brian. She completed her nursing degree at the Medical College of Georgia and later earned a graduate degree in nursing at Radford University. Kristin has worked as a congestive heart failure Nurse Practitioner at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California for the past seven years.
Kristin wed Brian Todd in Atlanta, Georgia in 2007. They shared many adventures together and lived in three states before making a home in Davis, California. Their son, Logan, joined the world in 2013, shortly after Kristin’s cancer diagnosis. He has been an absolute ray of sunshine on even the darkest days.
Kristin rejected the description of her 5-year long cancer journey as a 'battle'. Instead, Kristin referred to it as a journey. She approached this journey with courage and determination and won back years from cancer that it tried to take; for that we are eternally grateful and proud of her.
Kristin is survived by numerous family and friends, including her husband, Brian, son, Logan, father, Dr. Alden Sanborn, mother, Louise Sanborn, sister, Teri D’Amelio (Mike), stepfather, Mike Thornton, stepsiblings, Jeff Thornton (Courtney), Mark Thornton, Kim Blake (Chris), father- and mother-in-law, Dan and Rosie Todd, brother-in-law Kevin Todd (Katie) and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Kristin has now joined her maternal and paternal grandparents, her uncles Sam Klaskow and Dave Klaskow, and her fellow metastatic breast cancer warrior and friend, Adrienne Litman Toth, in Heaven.
Her Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday April 21, 2018 at 10:00a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, located at 106 E Church Street. To honor her love for the Georgia Bulldawgs, guests are encouraged to wear red and black. A reception follows at Embassy Suites.
Consistent with her selflessness, in lieu of flowers, Kristin prefers that donations be made to the charitable organizations METAvivor https://secure.metavivor.org/page/contribute or Thriving Pink https://thrivingpink.org.
Kristin will be remembered for her tenacity, inspiration, smile, zest for life, love of country music, and for never missing an opportunity to express her love for all.
