Charles Burr Appleman, 94, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2018. He was born in Benton, PA to the late John Burr Appleman and Ethel Lunger Appleman. He was predeceased by his sister Betsy Appleman, brother Martin Appleman and his sister-in-law Jerrie Hartman Appleman. Charlie is survived by his brother Robert (Agnes) Appleman, Philadelphia, PA.; three daughters, Cynthia of Houston, TX; Deborah (Bill) Adams of Burton, TX; and Joyce (Jim) Wortham of Celina, TX; two granddaughters, Michelle (Mike) Perry of Frisco, TX; and Julie (Carter) Morris of Celina, TX; six great-grandchildren, Keely, Laney, and Rex Perry; Lily, Kyndall, and Wyatt Morris, and numerous nieces and nephews..
Charlie graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and began his career as a research engineer in the electronics field as an employee of the U.S. Naval Mine Warfare Research Department. After 9 years with the Navy Department, he joined the General Electric Company in 1955 and Charlie put his engineering expertise to work with the General Electric Company starting in 1956 in Utica, NY; Seattle; Boston, and then in Houston where he served as the Liaison for GE with the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center until his retirement in 1976.
Charlie and his wife, Margaret, were foster parents for newborn babies for many years for Catholic Charities in Houston and also served as respite foster parents with Harris County, TX Protective and Regulatory Services. Charlie was a volunteer for the Ronald McDonald Houses in Houston and Orlando, Brothers’ Keeper Ministries, and Feed the Homeless Ministries.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, April 3rd, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4001 Edgewater Drive, Orlando 32804.
