Loretto Rose Bernero Burmester
After several months decline Loretto passed quietly at her apartment in the early morning hours of October 1st at the age of 96. She was a resident at Savannah Court in Maitland, FL, for the past 4 years.
Born April 21, 1921, in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of John Bernero and Loretta Simpson Bernero. She met and married William G. Burmester of College Point, NY, while both were working for ARAMCO in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. Lori was employed in the offices, censoring communications in order to bridge the gap between cultures. As a lifelong Roman Catholic, she also served as a secretary to the priest assigned to the American compound. Her husband, Bill, passed suddenly in 1973, and Loretto then settled with her 3 children in Clearwater, FL.
She was employed at Burdines Department store in the Clearwater Mall. She also served as a volunteer usher at Ruth Eckerd Hall for many years as well as being a member of that venue’s Dress Circle. In 2008 she down-sized and relocated to Longwood, FL, nearby two of her children who had previously been established near Orlando. Before settling at Savannah Court, she resided at Chambrel and Southland Suites.
Preceding her in death was her younger sister Louise Bernero Lundh of St. Charles, Illinois. Lori is survived by her sister’s children, Mary, Loretta, David, Jane, and Holly who will miss their “Auntie.” Also surviving are her daughter, Teresa (Carl) Bibeau of Orlando, and two sons, William (Laurie) Burmester of Clearwater, and George (Jean) Burmester of Oviedo. Her legacy lives on as well in granddaughters Maggie Bibeau, and Alex and Elyse Burmester.
