HARVEY GLEN AVERY, Jr. (AKA Uncle Jr or Popeye)
Glen passed away July 16, 2017 at The Masonic Home of Florida in St. Petersburg, Fl. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mildred Doris Avery. Survivors include his sons Craig (Anita) Avery and Mark (Peggy) Avery, grandchildren Keith (Jennifer) Avery, Ryan Avery, Robert (Dayna) Tobyansen, Jessica (Ben) Ratliff), Mark Anthony Avery and Allen (Bond) Avery. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren (Reagan, Wyatt, Zoey, Nicholas and Robert (Buddy), his brothers Robert Avery and Wayne (Mary) Avery, sister Deloris Royals, sister-in-law Lois Avery, and a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins. Glen was born August 12, 1927 in Erwin, NC. He attended Erwin High School and earned his GED after joining the Navy at the age 17. He served our country for 21 years, retiring as Senior Chief. Glen served on 3 tankers, 4 flags and 4 Naval Bases. He is a veteran of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He is a member of The Fleet Reserve Associated and The First Covenant Church of Winter Park, Fl.
During his 60 years of service to the Masons, he had many successes including:
1) Past Master of Winter Park Lodge #239
2) Past District Deputy Grand Master of the 16th Masonic District
3) General Secretary for the Orlando Scottish Rite Bodies (for 24 years)
4) 33 Degree Mason
5) Past member of the Bahia Shrine Temple (Past Master Unit)
6) Orlando York Rite Bodies member
7) Member of the Red Cross of Constantine
8) Royal Order of Scotland member
9) Past Patron of the Pioneer Chapter #99
10) Holder of The Grand Cross of Color
11) Member of The High12
12) Master and Warden Association Member
Glen has had a long and full journey here on earth. We know a place has been prepared for him with the Lord. Please join his family and friends to honor his life and celebrate his coming. Viewing, service and reception will be held Friday, July 28, 2017

H. Glen was a dear friend and Masonic Brother whom I often referred to as my Masonic Daddy! He was a kind, caring and dedicated man and Mason and will be missed, and at the same time remembered by myself and many others! Alas my brother!
