Dolores Carol Schmidt (Pierson) passed away peacefully at Cornerstone Hospice in Orlando, FL on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the age of 88.
Dolores is survived by her loving husband, Leonard D. Schmidt of Orlando, FL; her children, Glen B. Schmidt, Orlando, FL and Carlen A. Ginzl, Deland, FL; grandchildren; Kyle Ginzl (Krystal) and Erika Mather (Johnny); two great grandchildren, London and Ewan Mather; and many nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her parents, George & France Pierson; her sister, Alice Murdock and her son Russell L. Schmidt.
Dolores was born on July 7, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to George and Frances Pierson. She married Leonard D. Schmidt in 1947, was a homemaker and raised 3 children while living in Chicago, New York and New Jersey. Florida became her final homestead after the birth of her first grandchild in 1983.
Dolores was first and foremost a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She and her husband traveled extensively around the world exploring new cultures. She was an accomplished watercolor artist and a devout and life long active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. She had a passion and talent for teaching painting, a green thumb for gardening and for more than 20 years was a dedicated volunteer at Leu Gardens in Orlando, FL.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at the Orlando Lutheran Towers Chapel, 300 East Church St., Orlando, FL, on Monday, June 19, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Norton Rosebrock and Pastor Steve Rosebrock officiating. All are welcome. She will be buried at Glen Haven Memorial Park, Winter Park, FL. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to www.cornerstonehospice.org.
